I love jeeps and would own one if it wasn't for their terrible fuel economy

Previous XJ owner supports this post and your princess.

Is the fuel economy really that bad for a lifted brick with tall tires and short gearing?
![]() 05/29/2014 at 14:38 |

Not really, but for your average city commuter it is bad

Parked my cruiser next to a very mildly modified JKU and wow....I can't believe how big they are. Wheelbase is 4 inches longer, and a little less than 2 inches narrower is all. Big suckers

Yea, the JKUs look like they're almost H3 sized.

But the Smiles per Gallon are off the chart!

Mine averages about 16Mpg in city, 20Mpg hwy. And that's better than more aerodynamic Murano with its fancy CVT, or Infiniti G37x (except HWY, where I get about 22Mpg). I must admit, it did cost me $80 to fill up - but considering it's a go-anywhere car that got me out of traffic simply by driving through obstacles and onto adjacent roads, allowed me to have fun in 2' of snow, all the while having proper transmission and capable of going topless to the beach (or mud bath) - I'd take poor fuel economy any day. Oh, and this is coming from a former GT-R owner...
